How do I set it such that I can set a contact to appear as "Peter" no matter
what the real Peter contact sets his Display Name as?

Why? Its annoying when some people like to put their troubles and thoughts
and funny nicknames as their Display Name. And I have to click on a contact
when it comes online to check who he/she really is.

This feature is in ICQ, I think its labelled there as Nickname.

Thanks!

Okay, ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls. .. the solution I found was to
use Messenger Plus..

even then. I had to install MSN to use the Custom Names features .. oh well
...

Hope it helps someone digging up this thread.

This is better focused on the Messenger newsgroup rather than 3
peripherally related groups.

Apparently this request is a common one from several beta versions of
Messenger.

And it's NOT WINDOWS MESSENGER! It's MSN Messenger. People get this confused
all of the time. Windows Messenger is accessed thru the admin's computer
services menu, and is a method to communicate to other users on you network,
not a chat program!

Whew...

You might want to double check that, Mack. Using the Net Send
command or sending administrative messages relies on what's
called the "Messenger Service".
