I just noticed today that there is a new version (5).
Currently I have 4.7. Can anyone recall when this was
released? Also, I would like to know if this will
download automatically (like previous versions), or will
I have to download it manually?

I have seen in another post that you lose Hotmail
support. What exactly is this? (The link that takes you
to your Hotmail account?)

Thanks for any help, it is greatly appreciated!!

Greetings Cody,

Windows Messenger 5 was released last Friday (August 16th). It may appear as a download to
"upgrade" to in the future (it currently doesn't, they never immediately update the Messenger
servers to do this).

The Hotmail support that you lose is the link that takes you to your Hotmail account, and the
"alert" (also known as 'toast') which appears when you receive a new e-mail message in your
Hotmail inbox.

I downloaded Windows Messenger 5, and absolutely hated
it, so I uninstalled it and reinstalled 4.7. I don't know
how/why anyone would like this new version. I don't see
anything better in this new version, all the features
that we use seem to be gone. Is Microsoft trying to make
us not like this one and make us all switch over to MSN
messenger?
