Windows dropdown and popup menus appear partly filled in with some
portions black. Moving the mouse over the selections fills them in.
Applications affected include Windows Explorer, Outlook Express, & IE.
The problem occurs after the monitor powers down and is re-awakened.
Also as the monitor is awakened SmartDoctor produces an error. After the
error it's display is totally corrupt.

An error has occured in the script on this page.
Line: 377
Char: 3
Error: 'Chipset_D3C' is undefined
Code: 0
URL: res//C:\Program%20Files\ASUS\SmartDoctor\ResDLL.dll/103

Any ideas?

Athlon 1ghz

ASUS 9600XT
Asus 7.95 drivers
SmartDoctor 4.0

Thanks Tom

There should be a setting somewhere to refresh the graphics display on
resume/restart, that should clear up your problem. It might be in display
properties but is more likely to be found in the video card settings.

I had this happen just the other day but I am running the Omega/ATI
3.10 drivers. I had installed the newest SmartDoctor 4.0.....it
bombed after about 20 minutes and I had the black menus. I rebooted
and have never seen them again. Oh yes....I nuked SmartDoctor!

I've only seen the problem after awakening a powered down monitor. And
I've only seen the problem if SmartDoctor was running. Without
SmartDoctor during a monitor powerdown there is no problem on wakeup.

During a monitor power off, I've read that the fan is stopped (Asus
site). This seems to cause the SmartDoctor to report that the fan may be
bad (huh?). It then wants to tell me all about it and tries to display
while the monitor is sleeping and that appears to be bad too.

The SmartDoctor interface tries to look real cool with its irregular
shape and see through areas. It can't handle something during monitor
powerdown cause it looks all white and flickery as it tries to refresh
its self and that appears to wipe out the other menus in EI and explorer
etc. I'll bet you that SD is using EI components and it hoses them up.

It looks like I need to shut it off when I'm away. Luckly the graduated
fan speed appears to work without SD running. I sent ASUS a description
of the problem for what that's worth. BTW I'm running Win XP Pro.
