I have 2 hard drives
4gb (c drive) and 20gb (d drive)
I installed windows xp on the 4gb and I install everything
else on the 20gb (I know a mistake) Well my 4gb keeps
getting filled up from windows temp files and other
windows stuff (not sure what, I just know that the only
programs installed on my c drive is windows and it keeps
getting filled up???) is there a way that I can get
windows to use the other hardrive so that my c drive will
quit getting filled up and dumping out my computer? Or is
there a way to switch drives without losing all my data?

4 GB ought to be more than enough for Windows without
filling up unless perhaps it is storing system restore
files which cause the drive to fill. You could perhaps
turn off system restore and compress the 4GB drive to
create more space (right click on C drive and then
properties and then compress drive to save space) but the
best course is probably to backup your indispensable data
(onto removable media such as CDs as well as to a file on
the 20 GB drive) and install Windows on the larger drive.
If you do this you probably should format the drive with
Windows on it(installing Windows from boot up and
formatting)to avoid conflict with the new Windows
installation.

1. Make sure you have turned off hibernation (righ click on desktop,
properties, screen saver, power, Hibernate tab, make sure Enable Hibernation
is NOT checked.

2. Change the location of your "Temp" folder. Control panel, system,
Advanced tab, Environmental Variables Tab at bottom, Edit the TEMP
variable to a new folder on your D drive. ALso point TMP if it exists (if
not, create it) to the same folder on the D drive.

3. Decrease the amount of space System Restore is using on your C drive.
Control Panel, system, System Restore Tab. Settings.

4. Use Disk cleanup Double click on My Computer, Right Click on C,
Properties, then choose the Diskcleanup tab at the bottom.

5. Decrease the abount of space Internet Explorer uses for temporary files
In IE, Tools, Internet Options, Settings for Temporary Interent Files,
decrease amount of disk space to use.

As an aside, my C drive, which I use only for the OS and related files, is
now up to 4.6 gb, even though I install all programs on my D: drive in a
separate program folder. So it is not surprising that you are running out of
space on your 4gb D drive!
