i see I'm not the only one with this problem. I get that stupid "ding" too when I try to open WMP. I've scanned for viruses, there were none. But ( I know this sounds stupid) how do I reinstall WMP over itself, and will I loose my music I had before?

No you shouldn't loose your music but It's good practice
to back-up you're music onto a CD. You can reinstall WMP
over the existing one without a problem.
I hope this helps.
