windows media player version 9 not respoding

Ever since I downloaded the latest security patch for XP,
when I try to use Media Player it hangs up and says "not
responding". I can do maybe one thing like moving a song
in a playlist and then it stops. I once got rid of this
prolem by uninstalling service pack but don't really want
to do that again.
