I can't find the place to make Media Player the default player, so help
there would be appreciated.
Since it is not the default, I wanted to force it to play my music, but
I don't see any way to bring up Media Player and then tell it what to
play. Is this possible?
Thanks.

_____

The option to make 'Media Player' the default player is found in the 'Tools'
section in the Windows Media Player toolbar.

Click on 'Tools' in the 'Tool Bar' at the top of the screen.
Click on 'Options' in the drop-down menu.
Click on the 'File Types' Tab in the Options sheet.
Follow the directions at the top of the 'File types' list.
"Select the file types for which you want Windows Media Player to be the
default player."
Click on 'Apply'.
Click on 'OK'.

Or just open 'Windows Media Player' help and search for [ File types ]
(without the brackets.)
Follow the directions.

Or, if you have SP2 you can set it as your default player in 'Set Program
Access and Defaults' which can be found by Clicking on the start menu>Set
Program access....

I'm not quite sure what you mean. Once you open WMP are you saying you
can't figure out how to open files to play?

SO, what is your default player, by the way?

Start Media Player. Click Tools, Options, File Types, click Select All and
then click OK. All file types listed should now default to WMP.

If you can't see the menu bar where Tools is located, Press & hold the Ctrl
key while pressing the M key. Menu bar will pop-up.

The method you recommend is not at all the same thing as selecting file
types in Windows Media Player.
Pretty clearly the original poster wants to make Windows Media Player the
default player for certain file types.

Windows Media Player allows selection all or any of eleven file types plus
DVD and CD playback for default playback.

Sorry, I must be blind as I saw nothing in the OP's post that said anything
about making wmp the default for certain file types only, in fact, it says,
fairly clearly , and I quote,
"| I can't find the place to make Media Player the default player, so
help there would be appreciated"
It seems (and I quote), that this is a separate question altogether.
"I don't see any way to bring up Media Player and then tell it what to
play. Is this possible?"
Which doesn't really make wmp the default player, but rather, as you stated
"allows selection all or any of eleven file types plus
DVD and CD playback for default playback." Which of course needs a default
player to select from.
