Windows Media Player not installing?

When I updated my computer the other day it made my computer a genuine
Windows computer and it said that I could now download the new Windows Media
Player 11. I clicked download and it made my internet stop working and
nothing poped up to install it. What can I do to install Windows Media Player
11?
