windows media player gone crazy - Please help!

when ever im watching a video or listening to an audio file on windows media
player it tends to stop ever now and then then after a while it will start
playing again strange thing is when it stop playing, if i go to a bit of the
file that i've just been listening to, it wont play, despite the fact it was
playing only a few seconds ago, then sometimes the video or audio will just
go out of control and play really fast, with no sound and i often have to
restart teh computer, only to have it happpen again after a few minutes of
peace

Sounds like something is eating your system resources. I'd consider malware
and startup applications as my primary target for initial
debugging/troubleshooting...
