Alright, when you click on media files, some times <it
isn't always, and type doesn't seem to be a factor here>
it asks me if I want Windows Media Player to open them.

Where can I change it so that if I click a link to a
file, it prompts for me to save it, and does not play it?

Alternative browsers such as Opera and Mozilla give the user better control over
file types handling.

Alright.. that is great.

Now, is there anything that has some sort of resemblance
to an answer for my question?

The only thing I can think of is the standard file types dialog.

Start/My Computer/rightclick CD-rom drive/Properties/AutoPlay ta
Click "Take no Action", or whatever you want it to do, then Apply and OK
