Can my new IPOD work as a device in Windows Media Player 9? I have all my music stored in Windows Media Player 9 and do not want to start using MusicMatch or ITunes.

Hi, No. WMP can not be used with the iPod

Yes - Xplay works great if you have your library in MP3. If the files that you have in WM Player are WMA (you ripped your music in WMA), then you would need to convert to MP3 (still using WMP for all your library management) in order to work with the ipod since the ipod does not support WMA.

There is a utility in Plus! Digital Media Edition (www.microsoft.com/plus) that lets you convert all of you WMA to MP3. There is a caveot however as you must have an MP3 encoder installed that works with WMP. to get that, visit this page (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/windowsxp/experience.aspx)

The other option, is to get a device that natively supports WMA. There are over 50 devices available today. Check out http://windowsmedia.com/9series/Personalization/CoolDevices.asp for more info.

good luck
