Windows Media Player 9 problem?

Whenever I'm using it to watch a video.. avi or mpg, it seems to go blank
when there's like, (I'm estimating) 10% of the movie left to play?
I can still hear the sound, but no images.
Has anyone had a similar problem? .. if so, what can I do to remedy it?

i suppose you need to d/l the right "codec"
you can find them on the net easily
