I am trying to capture a still image from an .avi video
clip. I pause the video then hit the printscreen key. I
then open wordpad to paste the image but I get a black
square where the video was. Can anyone help please?

Intervideo has a free player that came with my compaq, I think you can download it from their site. (worst case they have trial period software) It has a fram capture featrue that works pretty well. You may also want to address this issue to the WMP 10 beta page to see if they might integrate this feature on the new WMP.

Good luck,
CJ

The player is probably writing the video directly to your
video card, whereas the desktop data is located elsewhere
in memory. Like Henley says, try another player.

i am having the same problem no matter what program i use to play the video...no matter what program i use to capture all i get is a black square

Turn down video hardware acceleration for the duration of picture capture:

(speaking for myself and doing this in my free time)
See http://www.zachd.com/pss/pss.html for some helpful WMP info.
