XP, SP 2
Suddenly no response. Uninstalled (rollback), reinstall.

Dbl click on wmplayer.exe. Nothing.

Dbl click on mplayer2.exe in the same directory. Version 6 comes up.

When I installed version 11, the install suddenly stopped. Probably an
incomplete install. Any idea of what is going on, and how to fix it?

Thanks.

hi,try removing all the media players then do microsoft update, try
re-installing media player 11. there is a point during install that seems
like it has stopped as it takes a long time. i havent got the quickest
computer and i had to wait nearly 15mins for it to install.

Stick with v10 for the time being. v11 was more designed for Vista
and is giving too many problems for people running WindowsXP. Read below.
Release Notes for Windows Media Player 11 for Windows XP

WMP10 (12.2Mb) and older - OldVersion.com

I downloaded v10.

This version of Windows Media Technologies is incompatible with this version
of Windows. For more information, view the information at the Microsoft web

yeah, you'll need to uninstall 11 to get back to 10 (or 9 if that's what
you had before). WMP 10 will NOT install itself over 11, since it knows
that it's an "older" player than what you've already got.

FWIW, WMP 11 isn't all that bad, it's just different (vista-ish). I hated
it when I first installed it, but have gotten used to it. It has worked
well on my XP system, no major screwups, tho I don't ask a lot of it (I
dont burn, or sync, or use the radio much; I did a quick functional check
of it and it does stream just fine tho; the media guide works fine too;
and any WM content on web pages has played fine).

But, I do still advise people w/ WMP 10 to stick with it, unless they've
got a Zune.

Good Luck.

Of course, I uninstalled from Add Remove Programs, and installed. It would not
install.

Same for v 11.
