My daughter's computer won't play DVDs in WMP. I have tried installing
PowerDVD (v.3) but that says there is no DVD decoder and shuts down. In
desperation I downloaded a programme that searches for decoders and it
detected "mpgvideo.ax v. 2.4.0.28" which is apparently not compatible with
WMP10/11.

Any help would be appreciated - not too technical please as I am not very
good with the workings of computers!

Locate an install one of those mega codec downloadable install pack.
These usually have a utility to fix playback problems.

Isn't powerdvd 3 a ripper program? Not sure but if you don't find a free
codec somewhere you will need this for compatibility with WMP 11.
