I recently downloaded both SP2 and WMP10. Since, I've had MANY crashes.
Have finally concluded that they are being caused by WMP10 -- not SP2. Can I
get rid of 10 and go back to 9? Obviously, I'm not the most savvy on this
subject but would appreciate any help.

You can, there are two ways - but why ?

Your PC obviously needs "tweaking" - might be better to fix the problem than
turning your back on it. I have both upgrades and they work perfectly.

Post the message(s) that accompany the crash, then we'll see what can be
done. What other software do you have running when the crash(es) happen ?

Cheers,
Jerry

Hi, Jerry,
There are no messages -- the system just totally freezes up. Has happened
after running Nero Burning Rom. Also, after and during working with Memories
on TV. Also, after trying to rip with Roxio Audio Central. And, after
ripping with Windows Media Player 10.

Seems to be no real consistency as to when. Yesterday, I walked away from
the computer once and when I came back it was booting up. Appeared to have
shut down and restarted itself! Later, Windows wouldn't shut down.

Any ideas?.............Thanks, Pam

Pam,

You have a conflict somewhere.

XP doesn't like co-existing with other burning programmes. Try disabling it
and seeing what happens.

Right click on My Computer > Manage > Services & Applications > Services >
look for IMAPI Burning ..... service and disable it > Apply > OK > re-boot
and then use either Nero or Roxio.

If that doesn't work re-post. Also check what is loaded at start-up. Start >
Run > type in msconfig > OK and check the start up tab. Disable those things
not vital. See this site :

Thanks for hanging in here with me, Jerry. When I went to IMAP1 Burning, it
was already stopped. I did turn off several startup programs, so we'll see
what happens today. I haven't had any more problems with Twilight Zone-type
bootings or freeze ups but the system is very slow to shut down.

One thing I'm going to do is add more memory. I thought I had 512 but only
have 256. Will let you know if I keep having problems. Thanks
again...........Pam

No problem. 512 will most certainly help. Re-post if any further problems.

Cheers,
Jerry
