Windows Media File

I have a presentation with a slide that contains a movie.
When this slide loads up, I want the movie to play full
screen everytime, or if possible, set the size of the
movie to fit within my frame.

I change the property FullScreen to True, however, after I
run the presentation once, it defaults back to false.

I was thinking I might be able to set the properties with
a PresentationStart routine using VB, but I'm unsure how
to go about this. I'm probably barking up the wrong tree
for the fix going this route, but any help would be
appreciated.

Hello John,

It sounds like you are using the ActiveX control for Windows Media Player
to play the movie. If so, this will not work (the fullscreen setting will
be reset to false after playing). This is a known problem with the Windows
Media Player control which has been reported to the Windows team.

In the meantime, however, if you are using PowerPoint 2003, you can use the
new "Zoom to full screen" feature for movies inserted using the "Insert ->
Movies and Sounds" command (instead of using the ActiveX control).

HEY, how about telling us how to use a different .ocx control, like say "REAL player" or some other control that actually works for fullscreen videos in powerpoint

I cannot believe you are suggesting that I go out and buy Macromedia Dreamweaver or a product to create FLASH presentations in order to implement a standard PowerPoint feature such as playing back a video file in a powerpoint presentation

Surely you aren't serious

There is not such thing as a PowerPoint ActiveX control for Windows Media
Player. There is a Windows Media Player activeX control which is available
in Windows, as well as updates available online for download, which can be
used from within PowerPoint but other than providing an entry-point
(interface) that allows you to access to the properties and object model of
the control, PowerPoint does not have any built-in knowledge about any
specific activeX control.

If you encounter problems using a specific ActiveX control in PowerPoint
there's really nothing that PowerPoint to address that. To address the
specific customer need to play movies full screen, we added a new option in
PowerPoint 2003 (since it was one of the reasons why people were using an
ActiveX control in previous versions of PowerPoint) and, by doing this, we
are able to directly effect this playback property of movies added to
PowerPoint using the Insert -> Movies and Sounds commands (since it does
not rely on any ActiveX control but, instead, calls directly to the
appropriate Windows media API's).

I'm sorry that you are so frustrated by the current limitations/bugs in the
Windows Media Player activeX control, but there really is nothing that
PowerPoint can do to address something which is outside the scope of its
control.

A suggestion: Lighten up a bit, particularly on people who're just trying to
help. Other than John, everyone here is a volunteer, nobody works for MS. If
you want to get a message to the PPT product team, here's the way:

Contact Microsoft: Use MSwish to request features, report problems, etc.

Using Flash is a reasonable suggestion. It works where some other methods
might not. If you happen to have a way to create Flash, then maybe it's a
solution to your problem. If not, there's no need to bite anybody's head off.

We can't control what goes on inside PowerPoint. We can only offer solutions
that work around the limitations of the black box.
