For two weeks now, every time that I use Windows Vista Ultimate, after 10 to
20 minutes of use, I keep getting an error window saying "Windows Media
Center Store Update Manager has stopped working and was closed". as yet, I
cannot get any information from Microsoft concerning this issue. Anybody
have some info on this?
Hello,
I was researching for answers to the same problem with the Vista Media
Center, and I came across your posting a few days ago. It took two
calls to Microsoft's tech support, and a few hours of head scratching,
but we (yes, I said we) finally figured out a solution for my desktop
PC, at least.
The short answer is, you're probably better off selecting the "Custom
Install" option when installing Vista on your XP-operating PC.
That'll save your old files in a new folder called "Windows.old" (no
quotes), and then pretty much proceed with an otherwise clean install.
I had been experiencing some guide update issues with the XP Media
Center 2005 before I upgraded to Vista, and the Microsoft tech finally
theorized that somehow the corruption responsible for my XP MCE issues
carried over to my Vista install. He recommended that I try the
Custom Install, and I did. The problem is now gone.
Keep in mind that a lot of your drivers for network adapters, tv tuner
cards, or other hardware and so forth will be uninstalled by this
process, and you'll have to re-obtain them and re-install them, in
many cases. I signed up for DriverAgent.com and was able to make
pretty short work of this. Or directing the Device Manager to search
for drivers in "Windows.old" may do the job.
You may have to change the "view" setting in your window to show
hidden icons or files -- my "windows.old" file was hidden until I did
that.
Hope that info helps.
