Windows Media 10 incompatible with Windows XP SP2

I need Windows Media Player 10 to use my new cell phone as a MP3 player. I
purchaed the Music Essentials Kit with my Verizon Samsung phone. Every time
I try to download Windows Media Player 10, I get the following error message:

"This version of Windows Media Technologies is incompatible with this
version of Windows. For more information, view the information at the
Microsoft web site."

What can I do?

You can tell us what version of WMP you already have installed, for
starters.
