I was using Finale Notepad on windows ME and when i
clicked to play the music, it played through my midi
player just fine. When i upgraded to XP-Home, now the
midi player says "This device cannot start. (Code
10)"...does this mean the wrong driver is being
used??...I have a HP pavillion 8860..any help would be
greatly appreciated.

Ouch, upgrading is not a good idea. Backing up your data then clean
installing is the best way ..... !

You should make sure you have the correct XP specific sound drivers for your
soundcard. Should do the trick.

Downloads and un-zip (if necessary) the new drivers from your soundcard
manufacturer's website. Un-install any remaining soundcard drivers, re-boot
and then install the new drivers when XP recognises the soundcard.

Cheers,
Jerry
