I currently have a desktop running Windows ME and two laptops running XP
Pro. I would like to upgrade, the desktop, to XP Pro . I appreciate that you
cannot upgrade directly from ME to Pro but instead of buying the full XP
package could I buy XP Pro upgrade and would the package recognise that I
have a Microsoft product and, presumably advise me to format disk etc to
load new operating system? (hope this makes sense)

Also is there a site for the UK where I can check the suitability of my set
up for XP. I have found something on the Microsoft site but this says it is
for US customers and I am reluctant to run it.

Thanks

Martin

That's not true, you can do this.

You can upgrade from ME to Pro, as that is an acceptable upgrade path. So,
you can buy and use the Upgrade version of Pro to do what you intend. You
can either upgrade, or do a clean install with the Upgrade disk.

I don't know, but you can check with getting the Upgrade Advisor from
Microsoft, to determine if the machine in question would be compatible with
XP.
