Those should do the trick, like most of these things you add them together
to get the best results, so once its out (presumably if MS see's the
marketing benefits and releases it as free) people will then use Spybot,
Ad-Aware and MS AntiSpyware together.
Hi Liz,
Best practices would be what all users should do such as not clicking on
unknown emails or attachments; not downloading from dubious sites, having an
up to date anti virus program running etc.
You might also wish to ask your question in the
microsoft.public.security.homeusers newsgroup ; and check the newly opened
website at http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/default.mspx (be sure
to watch the video on phishing scams)
Get Ad-Aware. It's free to individuals (in hopes you will
tell your company about it and they will buy several
copies.
It works great and has just come out with a nice new
improved version, Ad-Aware SE Personal.
Just type ad-aware free into your search engine and it
will find you the download site.
Lavasoft has been around for years, so they know what they
are doing, and have thousands of happy users.
You can try a firewall program like McAfee Personal
Firewall, or Norton Personal Firewall, they are quite
reliable. If you are on dial up then you will most likely
not need a firewall, but with high speed I would recommend
it. Also if you want to stay "free" Ad-Aware SE Personal
and Spybot Search & Destroy used in combination are almost
as good as MS Anti Spyware. Also AVG provides really good
Anti Virus for free. Hope that helps somewhat.
