I have used this Dell machine sucessfully for two years
and earlier this year bought Windows XP Home edition.
That way I would be compatible with my Desktop.
Worked well for a couple of months and then it closed
down with a "Windows 32 fault" and refused to re-open
Eventually I was forced to wipe evrything off because,
said Dell, one cannot load XP into an ME laptop. I find
this bar to progress difficult to believe? Anyway around
it?

As long as you have the ME cd you can change the laptop bios to boot from
the XP cd and do a clean install. This is providing you purchased the XP
Home edition upgrade. If you have the upgrade version but don't have the
actual ME cd you will have to do a restore of ME and then upgrade. How did
you load XP originally?
