my computer won't bout up past the microsoft me window
into the desktop is there anything i can do without doing
a system recovery

Have you tried SAFE MODE? I think you hold down the

SHIFT key while booting and it will give you the option of
booting into safe mode. Or you repeatedly tap the F8 key
until it gives you boot options.
