Windows Mangagement Instrumentation (WMI)

Can't activate InterNet Connection Firewall on a Windows
XP cable modem network connection.
Under the connections properties/Advanced where
Activate Firewall option should be I get window message
saying" Windows Management Instrumentation(WMI)is not
working, is corruped, missing
or moved. Use System Restore ..." etc.
How far back to Restore Points do I need to go to? I've
tries several different restore points to no avail.
I don't know when the problem started with not being able
to activate Firewall on my Cable Modem InterNet
connection.
