I use windows mail and have recently bought a new pc. I want to transfer my
email and contacts to my new pc. How do I do this

Export The Address Book from your old computer as: .wab then bring it to
your new computer go to: File > Import > Address Book You Will Transfer Your
Contacts.

V helpful advice Gary, thanks for the pointer.

I've just tried this procedure (export messages from OE6 on "old" pc, import
to W-Mail on "new" pc) ... but at the last step, new pc throws up message-box
that "No messages can be found in this folder ... try closing applications
that may have files open." To my knowledge, there are no conflicting
applications open - any suggestions from anybody?

When you navigate to the folder containing the OE .db files, don't open the
folder.
If you open the folder, the path to it will be incorrect..
ie. \temp will show up as \temp\temp

That worked fine, all now resolved.

(The crucial step was INcluding "folders.dbx" in the files being copied from
old to new. Useful tip also for solving Vista's adding extra filename to
path.)

Many thanks both to PA Bear, and to Dave who also identified the second
problem above.

The simplest way is to go to File | Export | Messages and set a destination
and then copy those files to a subdirectory under Documents on your new
machine and then use File | Import | Messages to import them into the new
machine. I think the contacts work similarly. I believe you can also use
the Windows Easy Transfer mechanism.

The details of the files and settings for WinMail are listed here:

Are you sure you have that correct? I am confused. Windows Mail implies
Vista, so are you using Windows Mail for both old and new systems?

I have got the E-mail which you have sent me, but I have also seen that you
have not told me what the numbers of the random lottery tick today yet.
