You may need to find your internet provider's instructions for setting up an
email account and check that you have it right. It's often somewhere on
their web site. Also, most providers don't let you connect through another
provider and use port 25.

Cutting and pasting the entire error message you get when you try to
send may help you get an answer.

My recommendation is to get rid of Windows Mail. It is full of problems.
Download the Beta of Windows Live Mail or get Outlook or another good
alternative is Mozilla Thunderbird. I spent about a week trying to get WM to
work and finally gave up and I think Microsoft has done the same -- with
"Windows Live Mail"

What is the exact error message?

Email scanning should be turned off in any anti-virus. Also exclude EML
files from the scan. It provides no
protection not provided by the regular resident protection.
Besides that, McAfee and Norton are not compatible with Windows Mail and
Outlook Express and should be uninstalled.

Go to Tools | Accounts and select the account.
Click Properties and go to the Connection tab.
Uncheck "Always connect to this account using:".
Do this for all accounts.
