Maybe or maybe not with respect to the word 'cease
- the key words in the journalist's article(note no quotes were placed around the msft person' commentary) were 'will be the only supported free email client'

We have to wait and see. Those at MS are being very tight-lipped. So far
no one from MS has publicly stated what he infers there as to the future of
OE / WinMail.

If they were to remove WinMail from Vista, I think they would get a lot of
complaints.

Yes.
As I predicted here several weeks ago, Microsoft is now saying
"In the future Windows Live Mail will be the only supported free email client,
and all development work going forward will only be on Windows Live Mail."

So, Windows Mail is dead. R I P

Beg to differ.

That shows what you know and how easy it is for you to jump to conclusions.

I'm going by what Paul Major, Director of Windows Live Hotmail, supposedly stated,
and what a reasonable person can infer from that statement.

As far as I can see, the journalist's words, since no quotes were used writing about Major's comments, didn't infer anything but a touch of doubt and a need for more clarity [e.g. ''will be the only supported free email client']

There's a quagmire of Msft no longer 'supported' applications and but many continue to function.

Although there were no quote marks, it seemed like a definitive statement.
No one from Microsoft has denied the veracity of that statement.
We shall see what happens. I still think my interpretation is right on.

The latest from the programming team is that they will continue to support
Wundows Mail.

That's all a bunch of hearsay until MS makes a definitive statement, and you
are extrapolating beyond the limits of what was said and proclaiming it as
truth.

Well, spill it then, or give us a URL that has the true scoop.

Can't give a URL. but they did say they will continue to support OE and
WinMail. I don't know what that means, though.
