I can browse the newsgroups fine and I can receive email but I am unable to
send email.
Do I need to repair the mail program maybe?

I am using Comcast, perhaps that is where the problem lies.

Gary

The obvious first step is to make sure your server names are properly set
up. I had Comcast a few years ago and at that time the proper settings were
very easy to find on their help site. I don't use WinMail, but I assume
that the settings for Outlook Express will be similar.

Gary--

Although Comcast may use different settings and some different server
configurations depending on your area, this is very probably *not a Comcast
problem. The most common cause of both Outlook Express and Outlook send
problems are 3rd party AV and firewall problems. WOC caused one but the WOC
"live" team--they're live as opposed to "dead" corrected it on the 4th or so
build--and there was a firewall workaround prior.

The fix there was simply type IMCP at the Firewall>advanced settings
button>advanced tab so that it can be added to "Allow ICMP connections"
(only from computers on my local subnet).

I would suspect that shortly after you try to send, Gary, you're seeing a
couple to three "socket layer" errors with long number sequences and
nebulous google hits that don't explain them. Event Viewer eventvwr.msc in
run box>application probably has similar errors and as is often the case
won't be very helpful in this situation.

NIS (Norton Internet Security) has a setting--a checkbox that does spam
checking in OE or Outlook that frequently interferes with Send that you
don't need because both do a good enough job of spam screening on their own
and they are improved with the latest versions of Win Mail and Outlook 2007.

I hope these will be of help--Symantec and often ZA and other firewalls
have settings that are at the top of the list of interfering. If you do
have Norton Internet Security any version:

This is where the problem is located and where you need to unhook Norton
Antispam with Email scanning at the Outlook and OE checkboxes:

To configure Norton AntiSpam to integrate with your mail client (Norton
AntiSpam 2005 or Norton Internet Security 2006/2005 only)
1.. Close your email client.
2.. Open Norton AntiSpam or Norton Internet Security.
3.. In the main program window, click Options, and then click Norton
AntiSpam.
4.. In the Norton AntiSpam Options window, under Email, click Client
Integration.
5.. Under "Select the email client(s) with which you want Norton AntiSpam
to integrate," examine the check boxes and do one of the following depending
on what you see:
a.. If your email client is listed and is not checked, then check the
box next to your email client, click OK, and open your email client. The
Norton AntiSpam button should appear.
b.. If your email client is listed and has a check mark next to it
already, then go on to step 6.
6.. Uncheck the box next to your email client.
7.. Click OK.
8.. Restart your computer.
9.. Repeat steps 2 through 4, and then re-check the box next to your email
client and click OK.
10.. Open your email client.
