Shame that they don't bring out Windows Mail for Windows XP version. I doubt
if they ever will. However the strange thing is that you can update to IE7
on XP though.

Be careful what you wish for.

So far, for me, I haven't seen any better functionality in Windows Mail than
in Outlook Express. In fact, there is less (can't use another default email,
like MS Outlook, can't use http mail any more, like hotmail, msn, etc).
There's more.

What do you mean by "can't use another default email"?

Well the spam protection is awesome. That was never on OE6. Its good
enough for me :-)

Oh and yes you can use another default email program.

You can? How? Here is the scenario. On Vista install Outlook and set
Outlook as your default mail client. Now in Windows Mail go to a newgroup
(Microsoft Communities) such as this one, select a message and click Reply
(not Reply Group). In OE on XP this would start the reply in your default
mail program. In Windows Mail and Vista this starts the reply in Windows
Mail.

Yes I'm having the same problem as you Tom and can't find an option to
change in Windows Mail.

Well I tried to replicate your problem but unfortunately I cannot get
Outlook 2002 installed properly. I installed it and added the service pack,
but when opening the program it gives an error about not being able to open
outlook folders. I tried reinstalling but to no avail.
I really want to look into your outlook problem, but you can help with mine
first? lol

Tom and Frankster are correct.

Wish I could help, but I'm using Outlook 2007 and had no problems
installing. Have you tried running Outlook 2002 as admin?

Yes, I like the idea of the built in spam protection.

No joy there either. It seems like Outlook is unable to actualyl create the
folders in the first place. Very odd. This worked fine on betas. :-/

Really? That's a new one I hadn't heard. What do mailto links do? What
happens if you click on one in one of these messages? Do you get WinMail or
Outlook?

Check HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\mailto\shell\open\command

I'm guessing the mailto is correct and its WinMail that's not.

I bet they fix that fast, since it infringes on Outlook. <G>

Mailto links in web pages open the default client, Outlook. I don't see a
mailto link in one of these messages, so I'll add one here and then see what
happens: mailto:tpporter@mvps.org
Check HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\mailto\shell\open\command

That's pointing to Outlook, as it should be.

Good guess.

Yeah, just wait 'til the Office team finds out. I'm tellin'.

Mailto in WinMail messages also launches Outlook, so it looks like only the
Reply button on the WinMail toolbar is changed from Outlook Express.

Thanks for that. I'll see what I can figure out. I suspect there's some
interface WM is using rather than what it should be.
