Menu item "About" in Windows Mail says "Version 6.0.5744.16384
(Vista_rtm_edw.061003-1945)". What exactly does this mean? Is this the
version that goes to manufacturing? Or final? Thanks.

No this is not Vista Gold..
edw means it is an interim build. 061003 is the compile date in
year/month/day or 3 Oct. 06. the 1945 is the compile time on a 24hr clock or
19hr 45min. The build is 5744.16384. The 6.0 means that Vista is NT 6.0

Thanks for the info and reply.

edw = external developer workstation, a term used by MS to distinguish
internal and external builds. This particular edw also happens to be a
milestone build. As Sam says, Version 6.0 refers to Vista being NT 6.0.
(Longhorn server may be either NT6.0 or NT6.1). The build date is 061003
(10/3/06 in US format).
