It appears as though several people are having the same problem as me. In
the last two days, I have not been able to send email. The incoming still
works, but outgoing does not.

The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'Re: Test email from
Knology technical support', Account: 'test', Server: 'smtp.knology.net',
Protocol: SMTP, Port: 1025, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error
Number: 0x800CCC0E

I have talked with Knology tech support and they say that the settings are
correct and the problem is on the Windows Mail side. Any insight into the
problem?

Thanks,

Mark

I could not find any evidence on the Knology website that they support
port 1025. My test on port 1025 failed. Do you get an identical error
message when using port 25? If yes, is your Internet connection
being obtained from Knology when you get that error? Or are you
on a laptop away from home?

I was getting the same message. I finally removed the account and set it up
again. The downside to that was I had 1900 messages on my server, which
downloaded again, but at least it's working now.

I get the same exact error with port 25. Port 25 is the normal setup I have
been using. Knology tech support had me try port 1025 but it didn't work
either. I use the Knology internet connection and am at home. No setting
changes from what has worked as early as last week.

I also deleted the setup and created a new one with no impact (same error).

If you are sending from home, using the SMTP server belonging to your
home ISP, then the only thing that could block a port 25 connection is
your security software. Are you running any third party security programs?
Of particular concern would be antivirus and firewall programs.

Gary centers in on your issue . . . . . you need to set up the SMTP server
as your home ISP / email SMTP server - not Knology (as your original error
message reflects).
