Windows Mail v. Outlook Express - contacts

In OE I was able to set up sub-groups in addition to the "Main Identity's
Contacts" group that contained all of my email addresses. The sub-groups were
of particular help when going to select an email recipient from my contact
list. Instead of going through a long alpha list of contacts I was able to
put them in functional groups (e.g.: Employees, Vendors, Customers, etc.). By
doing so, I was able to view a short list of contacts based on where I put
them.

I see no way to do this under Windows Mail. Am I missing something?

Note: I am not talking about setting up contact groups for mass emailing.
This has to do with the organization of my contacts.

Help!

Thanks Dave. Any indication MS may make a change to WM to allow what was once
possible under OE? Or is this just another MS "upgrade" we'll have to live
with?

I have no idea. Seeing how MS has released 2 beta versions of WIndows Live
Mail since Vista was released, I don't expect to see many improvements being
made to WM. But I could be wrong...

Are you aware of any downside to using WLM? Did this come after WM? Weird.

Although there are some workarounds for making Windows Contacts
more usable, it still is not very satisfactory. Check this tutorial:

The Contacts feature in Windows Live Mail is much better:

No downside. The majority of the regular responders here switched to
Windows Live Mail (WLM) because it has more features and is at least
as stable as Windows Mail, in spite of still being beta. The current
build was released on September 5th. Microsoft has hinted that it will be
a replacement for WM, but they can't push it as such until it is out of beta.
If you install WLM, it will automatically import all your WM accounts,
settings, and emails.
If it turns out that you don't like it, merely uninstall, and WM is back.
