Hi:

It's hard to believe that through the evolution of Win 95,98,ME, and XP
that Microsoft has ended up with an application like Windows Mail for Vista.

I talked a friend into buying a new computer that has Vista Home Premium
with Windows Mail and set everything up for him this past Monday. He has had
nothing but problems with Windows Mail. I sure wish there was someway to put
Outlook Express 6 on his computer.... I feel that Windows Live Mail is not
an option at this point.

He called last night with the same problem , which has been posted
apparently over and over again with not being able to delete mail from the
Outbox. Now he tells me that he can't even find his Outbox listed even
though it still has emails in it which he can't delete.

Now I know why so many new computer buyers are still insisting on Windows
XP. Vista has been out now for about 10 months and to still have basic email
problems is in my mind hard to believe. I have been thinking about upgrading
to Vista from MCE2005, but after seeing all this first hand I am glad to be
where I am.

Any simple solutions for apparently his never ending problems with Windows
Mail?

Thanks,

ColTom2

P.S. BTW I am not a Microsoft basher, but rather a supporter all through the
years.

From what I've been reading, there's nothing wrong with Windows Mail but the
problems arise from the fact that McAfee & Norton are the cause of the
problems. I'm sure they must be working on a solution but why would I ever
want to go back to McAfee or Norton after switching to another virus
program?

While McAfee & Norton are generally horrible pieces of software
to inflict on one's computer, Windows Mail is flawed. Microsoft
should be ashamed for releasing it.

Fortunately, Microsoft realizes their blunder and have moved all
future development towards Windows Live Mail. I would assume
at some point, Windows Mail will die. I still do not think WLM is
a huge improvement, but it is better than WM. I am particularly
disgusted with the pitiful performance in handling newsgroups that
WM and WLM have displayed. Since I use Outlook for email, I don't
really care about the email functions of either. But, I am quite disappointed
in how easily either one can choke on newsgroups.
That's why I have moved to Thunderbird, it really is far superior to
WM and WLM. I hope the development team works the problems
in WLM. If not, http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/thunderbird/

Go to http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/62560-windows-mail-problems.html
and read through the sections labeled 'First' and 'Second'.

It is unfortunate that Vista is getting a black eye because of the fact that the
most popular AV vendors (McAfee and Norton) released "Vista compatible"
products which are not actually compatible with Windows Mail.

I also believe McAfee and Norton are horrible products.
However, I experienced numerous problems with Windows Mail
and have *never* had either of those pitiful programs.
Windows Mail is flawed.

Hi:

Thanks for all the comments and info related to Windows Mail and it seems
we all agree. In addition, I think we also all agree on McAfee and Norton as
being Windows culprits for a long time.

If they both would add on to Microsoft's security rather than "rebuild the
world" I think the consumer would be better off. I was a long time advocate
and user of Norton, but this year I finally got enough and trashed it. My
computer has never ran better and faster since I removed Norton.

One question that I do have that I have read both pro and con is when
using any AV to turn off both incoming and outgoing email scanning. I
currently have mine turned off with AVG. I hope that I am not diminishing my
AV protection by doing so.

Have a nice weekend and again I thank all of you for your responses.

Messages may be stuck in the Outbox when you use Windows Mail on a computer
that is running Windows Vista
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/941090
It also works on other folders.

Your protection is not diminished by turning off email scanning, which is
basically redundant. For more on this see http://www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3
