I was wonderting if there is a way to speed up Windows mail in Vista. It
takes way too long to open up as compared to Outlook Express. Any ideas ?

Thanks,

Rohan

Simply used for email or email and newsgroups. Also was Vista
installed fresh or as an upgrade. The method of storing messages
is different in Vista from Outlook Express. One thing that tends
to slow it down is the number of folders/messages it has to handle.
The data stores get an occasional compressing, that can be done
manually and that might help.

Try running sfc:

Type cmd into search and right click>type sfc /scannow at prompt.

If it persists then you can try compacting the database by going to Tools |
Options | Maintenance | Advanced and setting the counter there to 1 and then
closing WinMail and it will compact the database and get rid of wasted space
in it and that might improve performance. Change the counter back again
once you run WinMail again.

The bulk of the "slowness" I think is mostly due to the design of the
database and the lack of any sort of relational db concepts resulting in
rather poor performance. NG performance is poor even when messages are not
downloaded, for example.
