I had this problem and I solved it by uninstalling Kaspersky. I used the free AVG anti-virus instead and now Windows Mail opens almost instantly instead of the long period of time it took before.

Windows Mail is so slow it locks up my computer and I have to use the On/OFF
button and reboot to get computer back. It is also bogging down the rest of
computer operations, it only took two minutes for this screen to appear. Any
help? Computer working just fine yesterday. Really hate Vista, much slower
than XP even on a good day. If able, can you respond to (e-mail address removed),
otherwise I'll never see your reply? It took me 20 minutes to load pages
just to get to this board.
