I am 61 years old and if I were Windows Mail I would have died last week! Old
Email program with XP was a +10! New Window Mail is about a +3! NEDDS TO BE
REWORKED NOW!

Hi, Ken.

I'm 71 and WM keeps up with me pretty well. ;<)

Windows Mail IS essentially" the "Old Email program with XP". It was
re-written in large part (I'm not a techie so I can't give you details.) but
kept much of the Outlook Express user interface, so it looks familiar to
most of us. I have some gripes about it (which I plan to discuss with folks
at the Microsoft MVP Global Summit in Seattle and Redmond next week), but it
performs as well as OE in most respects for me.

Why are you using the web-based interface to access this newsgroup? I use
WM and nearly every MVP and other experienced computer user I know prefers
it, even though Microsoft keeps trying to promote the web version. My
impression is that most posters who ASK the questions use and seem to like
the web interface; most users who are able to ANSWER the questions prefer a
news reader like OE or WM.

In case you are not familiar with it, just click here:
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.windows.vista.mail

That one click should fire up Windows Mail (or Outlook Express for any WinXP
user who may be lurking) if it is not already running, create the Mail
Account for these Microsoft Public Newsgroups (also known as Microsoft
Communities), connect you to this vista.mail NG, and download the 300 latest
messages here. Try that and see if it isn't MUCH faster and more coherent
that using the web interface.

Make sure you don't have antivirus software set to scan email. That really
messes stuff up in Vista. See www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3

They made a new database format for WinMail (OE) in Vista, because people
were losing their messages in OE so much. The performance of the database
clearly needs to be improved.

Mine is fairly fast, well: WAS fast, until I used a third party tool that
added blocked users in the security settings. That slowed it down a little.
But, overall, it's not too bad.

Sometimes, it is due to an antivirus. Is it slow on getting or sending mail,
or just overall use and selecting and reading messages?

First of all why do you have to take off your anti virus which protects you
for windows mail when outlook express with xp had no problem with it. I
don't scan out going to speed things up though. I have a big problem with
windows mail and have seen quite a few posts about the same problem slowness.
My new computer after I set it up was working great until I transfered my
files account from my xp to vista. The it slowed down to a almost hault.
Not in sending or recieving mail but in bring up the reply or new mail
windows inside the program. I configured my account ok , although on
transfer , I had double and I had to delete some. I have been communicating
with HP help and they don't understand , they keep telling me to reconfigure
my window email. I started to backup my mail and now have two backups one
from outlook express and another with windows mail. I noticed that someone
else webguy62 fixed his slow problem by deleting certain files. Please help
I have lost confidence in mircro soft completely.
