Hi, Ken.
I'm 71 and WM keeps up with me pretty well. ;<)
Windows Mail IS essentially" the "Old Email program with XP". It was
re-written in large part (I'm not a techie so I can't give you details.) but
kept much of the Outlook Express user interface, so it looks familiar to
most of us. I have some gripes about it (which I plan to discuss with folks
at the Microsoft MVP Global Summit in Seattle and Redmond next week), but it
performs as well as OE in most respects for me.
Why are you using the web-based interface to access this newsgroup? I use
WM and nearly every MVP and other experienced computer user I know prefers
it, even though Microsoft keeps trying to promote the web version. My
impression is that most posters who ASK the questions use and seem to like
the web interface; most users who are able to ANSWER the questions prefer a
news reader like OE or WM.
In case you are not familiar with it, just click here:
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.windows.vista.mail
That one click should fire up Windows Mail (or Outlook Express for any WinXP
user who may be lurking) if it is not already running, create the Mail
Account for these Microsoft Public Newsgroups (also known as Microsoft
Communities), connect you to this vista.mail NG, and download the 300 latest
messages here. Try that and see if it isn't MUCH faster and more coherent
that using the web interface.
