It use to behave fine. I set up an email account and each time I opened
mail, it would automatically connect to the server when necessary. Now I
have to log in each time I use Windows Mail. I don't know what has changed
and whether the problem lies with Windows mail or with the POP3 server. I
routinely update Vista Ultimate and several days ago this problem appeared.
My wife is using XP and outlook on the same POP3 server and has no problem.
If you have had this problem and resolved it, please help.

Thanks, Ben

It is quite likely that your antivirus program has corrupted
your saved password.

Next, if you are using either McAfee or Norton antivirus, uninstall,
reboot, then try Windows Mail again. If it still won't save the
password, create a new account with the same settings as the
old account, then delete the old account. Restart Windows Mail.

If you uninstall your antivirus program, replace it with something
less intrusive, like the free AVG antivirus. Be sure to unselect
the email scanning module during installation.

Also check under Tools | Accounts | Mail | Properties | Servers that you
have it set to remember the password.
