Help! I have set up a new email on my computer which has Windows Vista, my
ISP is frontier, I am able to receive emails, but am unable to send emails
through email address. I believe it has something to do with the outgoing
port, which I've tried 25 and 587 to no avail. If someone has some advice I
would appreciate it.

Try turning off the Firewall, in Control Panel, and then trying.

If it works, you know that it is a port that you need to open for your email
software.

Thanks Rick for the advice, but I do have server requires authentication

In addition to what Rick said...the outgoing mail should start with
"smtpauth"

What the heck does that mean ? Is that specific to their ISP ?

For ISP's requiring secure outgoing mail, often the outgoing mail must start
with smtpauth...as in smtpauth.earthlink.net

That's just the DNS name of the server, and smtpauth is used to indicate
that it needs authentication.

I'm sure it doesn't have to start with smtpauth.

Well, if he's server requires it , them without typing it that way...it will
not send.
I know...mine is setup that way.
But, you know it all....so tell him.

No, I don't claim I know it all.

I do however know that a mail server that requires authentication does not
*require* to have it's DNS name start with smtpauth.

Get over it.

outgoing email fix

to: BusyMomof3 and anyone else with this issue...... if your server was Verizon or any other server that blocks port 25 or your current server is Frontier and they block port 25 then you should be using port 587 this will fix your outgoing email problems.
