Windows Mail odd behaviour on shut down

I am using Windows Vista Home Premium with Windows Mail.

If I have an email open for reading in the viewing window (not the
preview pane) and I forget that it is open when I shut down the
computer, then Windows Mail saves a copy of it in the Drafts folder.

I am NOT talking about emails that I am composing but incoming ones
that I had opened for reading.

Has anyone else got this problem?

Is it a bug or is there some setting that needs adjustment?

Haven't seen that behaviour previously. Are you seeing this behaviour
consistently? If so, I'd suspect a bad installation or some 3rd party
application causing the problem. Are you using an antivirus or antispam
program and have that program set to scan incoming mail? If so, try
disabling those options and see if the problem fixes itself.

Thanks for reply

I am using AVG antivirus and I tried disabling email checking but
still got same problem.

Only antispam is the Windows Mail Junk Mail filter

Any other suggestions?

Do you see a warning dialogue when you tried to shut down, telling you that
the message will be saved to your Drafts Folder? Or have you previously
disabled that message by selecting the don't show option?

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows Mail\Dont Show Dialogs

Do you get a Warning that an open program is preventing Shut Down?

It looks like its a bug.

What happens is that there is dialogue window pops up saying that the
message has been saved to the drafts folder.

If I am not quick enough to click "OK" then the screen changes colour
and the warning:-

The following progams are still running

SAVED MESSAGE
This program is preventing you from logging off

I have not changed the regisrty setting.

Hi Stubbo, I see exactly the same as you describe -- Why you failed to
mention the error and dialogue messages in your initial post, evades me?

You would not have to edit the registry, simply select the 'Don't show' box,
then you would not see any slow down in closing Vista, with a message
remaining open on shut down.

The registry path would simply allow you to re-enable the dialogue box.

The message should NOT be saved to drafts, therefore it is a bug.

The 'Bug' will be brought to the attention of M$. (Don't hold your breath).

Thank you for spotting it.
