I have been using my windows mail with windows vista for months and months
suddenly two days ago i cannot send nor receive any mail. It will not logon
and gives the following error message.

Account: 'mail.comcast.net', Server: 'mail.comcast.net', Protocol: POP3,
Server Response: '-ERR authorization not enabled', Port: 110, Secure(SSL):
No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC18

I have read all threads and answers..seems like alot of people are having
this same problem...you guys better take this serious and get on it.

I have used mcafee all along and never ever a problem. I did disable all of
it just for you and I still cannot logon on to my mail.

I also went straight through comcast and it is not a problem on their end.

Hurry and let us know what the problem is.

Thank You for your quick response to this problem

I too am having this problem sending mail, and receiving the same error
message. It all worked fine up until a week ago now I have to connect to my
carriers web mail sent a test message to myself and the somehow opens up the
port I need to use to communicate with....This is the only way I have found
to get my outbound mail to go this is very frustrating. If anyone has a fix
for this problem I would love to know about it.
Thanks

I am also receiving the same error message using Norton. I can send mail
okay using SMTP port 587 but cannot receive mail using POP3 port 110.

What do you mean by saying you did "disable" McAfee? It must be
completely uninstalled. I suggest you replace it with the free
version of Avast.

The error message means that you're trying to use Secure Password
Authentication, but the server does not use that feature.
Go to Tools, Accounts, select the mail.comcast.net account,
Properties, Servers, uncheck "Log on using Secure Password
Authentication".

If your error message is indeed identical, it means you're trying
to use Secure Password Authentication, but the server does not
use that feature.
Go to Tools, Accounts, select the mail account, Properties,
Servers, uncheck "Log on using Secure Password Authentication".
