Hi there,

Can you backup Windows Mail Newsgroups and restore them if so how or do you
need a third party application?

Many thanks, Tim.

All newsgroups are archived in perpetuity by Google groups.

Also... you can "restore" a newsgroup by unsubscribing and resubscribing,
which will reset the pointers.
(The messages stay on your newsserver even when they're read
subject to the particular servers retention criteria...
often many months.)

Hi there,

I'm aware that the newsgroups are on Google but MS Mail has a 'backup'
folder and I wondered if this could be used to restore all my newsgroup
folders and all the subjects I had marked.

There was a third party tool for OE6 which allowed you to make a full backup
of OE6 and its newsgroups and then restore them when you formatted your
machine I would like something like that for MS Mail and though with
progress MS might have included it within MS Mail hence the 'backup' folder
with in the MS Mail folders and files?

As it is I have had to re-subscribe to the newsgroups and have lost all my
topics that I had marked, hope this make sense.

Tim.

Yes, but it's beyond my competence.

ps. What is MS Mail?

You can backup according to the directions here:
www.oehelp.com/backup.aspx#wm

Its very simple. The "backup" directory is only for database information
and not for the messages. The messages are stored quite differently than in
OE, as they are individual files.

Hi there,

Firstly sorry I meant MS Windows Mail or MS WM I guess.

I use OE Backup on an XP machine and it is good but no end of problems thus
far with Vista and MS WM.

I thought MS would have improved the system so that we could backup and
restore when we format our drives etc especially given there is a backup
folder created in the WM folder.

Guess I'm going to have to persevere with OE Backup.

Unless anyone else has any ideas?

Many thanks, Tim.
