When I load Windows Mail for the first time after turning on computer, I
notice it takes 6 seconds to load it. During the 6 seconds, the Windows Mail
screen is shown and then loads. If I load it any other time, its pretty much
instant.

I have AMD Dual Core Processor and 2GB RAM so computer is pretty fast and all.

Is there a way to speed the loading of Windows Mail up?

Any help is much appriciated.

Hi,

The first time the program's files and database are being loaded to memory.
On subsequent ones they are already there, so the time to load is decreased.

Normally, as you use the system, Vista would "learn" your usage pattern and
load or partially load the mail files ahead of time. However, there are some
circumstances that would prevent this process. To name a few:

- You disable prefetch, indexing, or UAC
- You place restrictions on the virtual memory
- Another program is preloading with a higher priority and occupying the
needed memory space
- You are low on drive space or you disable virtual memory
- You are running in diagnostic mode
- Spyware, malware, or virus is loading and tying up the memory
- Antivirus software is preventing the program from preloading

I have unticked the box for "Index this drive for faster searching" last week
when I got the computer. UAC is disabled because it is annoying.
