When I open my windows mail I get the following error message....
The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'pop-server.oh.rr.com',
Server: 'pop-server.oh.rr.com', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No,
Socket Error: 10061, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

any suggestions??

That type of problem is usually caused by interference from a non-
compatible antivirus program. Which antivirus are you running?
As a minimum, email scanning in the antivirus must be turned off,
although that may not be sufficient to eliminate all bad effects.
In a worst case scenario, your antivirus may need to be uninstalled.

Email scanning in any antivirus must be disabled, for reasons
explained here:
http://thundercloud.net/infoave/tutorials/email-scanning/index.htm

If no improvement after disabling email scanning, consider upgrading
to Windows Live Mail, because it is less prone to suffering bad effects
from overly intrusive antivirus programs:

how do I turn off the scan. I have been unable to use my Vista Mail since ATT
changed to Yahoo 2 days ago. I have done all of the troubleshooting from ATT
(several times) and tried the Microsoft Help. Sometimes it will send and not
receive and vice versa...I just tried the enable SSL and that didn't help.
Current error message is
The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'Re: website', Account:
'Windows Mail', Server: 'smtp.att.yahoo.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25,
Secure(SSL): Yes, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

It would be nice if Microsoft and ATT tech people could get together and
tell us how to use their products.

I'm using Windows Live One Care. I don't see an option there about turning
off email virus scan. Actually I tried Windows Live Mail about a month ago
because my Mail won't send to aol addresses but I couldn't get it to work
right. I'm not computer literate...I can follow directions but I don't
understand the "lingo" or how to troubleshoot on my own (that's why I bought
One Care).

actually (after 2 hours last night with ATT) got the port changed. New error
message is
Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for
this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of
inactivity. Account: 'Windows Mail', Server: 'pop.att.yahoo.com', Protocol:
POP3, Port: 995, Secure(SSL): Yes, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F

Now I can receive but not send

Sorry to hear you bought OneCare. Microsoft is in the process of
dumping it, so I don't know how much longer it will be supported.

You say you can receive but not send, yet the error message you
included pertains to receiving. What is the error message when sending?

Your mail account settings are correct, going by that error message.
However, "unexpected" termination is almost always caused by a
security program like an antivirus.

Since you last tried Windows Live Mail, it has released a newer version,
so you might give that a try: http://download.live.com/wlmail
