Can anyone tell me how to deactivate the Windows mail, or do I have to delete
the programme? Delisting it as a default programme does not stop it.

You cannot remove or uninstall Windows Mail since it is part of
the Vista OS.
Tell me what you plan to use for email, and I might be able to
help you set that up as the default, thereby silencing WM.

HIT START THEN PROGRAMS THEN AD OR REMOVE PROGRAM THAT WILL WIPE IT FROM
YOUR MACHINE, (e-mail address removed) good luck

You can't uninstall it.
Remove all accounts created in it.
Set your other email program as the default for all file types and
protocols.

I use Hotmail. The thing is that I do not wish to use any programme to
"organise" my mail as I find them too complicated for my simple needs (Home
User). Windows XP did not force any Mail Programme onto me, and if I had
known Vista did I would not have bought it!! It is a sledgehammer to crack a
nut. I do not want to replace it with some other programme that organises my
mail, I just want to be allowed to use my Hotmail as I have happily done for
years. If such programmes are to be put into operating systems there should
be an option to turn them off. Once upon a time, Windows used to allow the
user to select the features that suited them, nowadays Windows is becoming
dictatorial.

To use Hotmail as default email program in Vista:

1. Right click on Blue Orb button (Start button)
2. Click Customize
3. Under E-Mail link select Windows Live Mail from the drop down menu.
4. Click OK then Apply and finally OK. Now you have a shortcut for Windows
Live Mail directly in Start menu.

Alternatively you can download Windows Live Mail beta.

Hope this helps
