Hi David

I can only think this has happend after windows updates. I've been using
windows mail without any problems for about a year and then couldn't open it
at all. Every time I tried to open Windows mail I had a C+ + warning message
"This application has requested the runtime to terminate it in an unusual
way ". Looking at the error detail the fault seemed to be in msvcrt.dll.
After trying different registry error programmes, which did not resolve
anything, I right clicked the windows mail icon and ran as an admistrator
and it started.

I then logged on as administrator, opened Windows mail and it would not
open, so I logged out and then logged back in again as a user with
administrator rights and it started.

Have tried all the microsoft FAQ's without any joy, hope you can help.

You can try compacting and repairing the database. See
www.oehelp.com/WMUtil/

Its sounds more as if its a permissions issue to me.

Had already found that utillity and compacted and repaired the database. As
far as permissions, when all started going wrong none of the permissions had
been changed.

Hi Steve

Have just realised that I ran that utility logged in as administrator where
actually there was no data to check, so have just run it as a user and
everything works fine now. Thanks for your help.

That's good, since a problem with msvcrt.dll would likely affect many other
things too. As it is, there probably was a problem that caused another bug
in Windows Mail to fail as a result of the corrupted data.
