Seems most of the activity in this group comes from the rather confusing
matter of WM, WLM, and WLMD. I wallowed around with them for a while after
upgrading to Vista. But I've decided to stick with the WM client that comes
with Vista in the meantime. It's pretty reliable (on IMAP for me anyway),
reasonably secure, and the contacts are pretty solid. Yeah, there's some
things I don't like, but Live Mail seems to me to be an attempt to ease
people towards web based services. I do use IMAP but I don't want to go web
based. Others may like it fine, and that's OK. I have been using Thinderbird
for a while, and It's pretty good, but there's the odd issue with the
address book, and it takes longer to launch.

Yep, Windows Mail, plain Jane and all that, basically slightly polished up
OE as far as I can tell, seems to do most of what it claim to do, and pretty
well.

I haven't had any problems with Windows Mail....yet ;)

This is something curious that happens to me occasionally. I use WM on an
IMAP account, and just about all of the time it works fine. Occasionally
when a new message header comes in and I go to view it, it tells me it is no
longer available on the server. The header then appears with a strikeout
through it as though it is marked on the server for deletion. I can get the
message using Thunderbird or directly via web mail fortunately. Nothing will
change its status in WM, not even compacting the folder. The only way to
sort it that I have found to work is to delete the account in WM, compact
the folders, close the prog, restart it, recreate the account, and bob's yer
uncle.

Must be some little hiccup at my end I guess, but I offer it here for what
it's worth just FYI. The curious thing is the exactly the same thing used to
occur occasionally with OE6 under XP Pro.
