When I turn my computer on everything comes up ok until I get to the logon
screen. The screen comes up but no user accounts show up so I cannot log
into Windows.

I have recently changed the settings of my DVD-Writer so that I can copy
using Windows Explorer.

I can't format my harddrive because I have lots of university work on there
which I have not yet backed up.

Hi,
If you mean the welcome screen comes on without a login name then you have
problems, if your account has been lost it should show an account name of
administrator.
If it is prompting for you to press "Control+Alt+Delete" then you need to
press those keys to get the logon screen to appear.
Are you using XP Home or XP Pro edition.??

I have the same problem. Just happened a few days ago
after a reboot. Not only are the user names not there,
the red button for shut down (if I remember correctly) is
also not there. Just the blue screen with a XP logo. This
is XP Home.

thanks

I have the same problem I think, did you resolve the issue yet?

Windows does not appear to even load the logon window/screen, just stops short with the blue screen and the Windows XP (Home) logo in the middle. I cannot do anything but hold down the power button to reboot, and I've tried that many times with no improvment. Even Safe Mode or Last Config do not work. Please e-mail (e-mail address removed) if anyone can help. Thanks, Matt.

P.S. Remember I can't get into Windows at all.
