How do I get rid of the loggin screen? After downloading
recommended updates I now have a loggin screen that I
never had before.

How to Enable Automatic Logon in Windows XP

Easy Alternative:

Download and install TweakUI:

Microsoft PowerToys for Windows XP (TweakUI)
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp

After installing, go to Start > Programs > PowerToys for Windows XP >
TweakUI. Expand "Logon", click on "Autologon" and place a check
next to "Log on automatically at system startup", then click "apply".

Hi Dennis,

I'd speculate that one of the downloads was the .net framework. It creates a
separate user account and causes this issue. You can safely delete this
added account if you like. To resolve the logon issue, use these steps:

Start/run "control userpasswords2" (without the quotes).

Uncheck the box requiring a username and password, click apply/ok and follow
the prompts to set up a default logon.

Hi Dennis,

This situation might occur after you installed the Windows .NET Framework
1.1 update from Windows Update site. An additional user account is created
(ASP .NET) in Control Panel user accounts and hence you see the Welcome
Screen. Follow the advice by "Nutcase" Rogers.
