Ok, I'm computer tech intern, and I have stumbled across
a problem I have never seen before. We have a computer
here on a network that will log onto the domain (and
windows) only when it wants to. other times it comes up
and says invalid username or password. It seems to not
want to log on after a fresh boot, you have to reboot it
about 4 or 5 times to work. It is either a problem with
the windows drivers, a problem with the network
connection, or the network card. If any of you have ever
experienced this, please get back to me. thank you
Dizzy D.

Invalid Username or Password implies it may be a bad keyboard. It isn't
typing what you think it is typing.

........or the CapsLock key was on.

Enable auditing of account logon events on the domain controllers and then view
the security log in Event Viewer to see what it says. Next time it happens also
try to ping your domain controllers by fully qualified domain name to see it the
computer can resolve a dc and have connectivity. Running netdiag may also help
on the problem computer. What is the operating system of the computer and the
domain controllers?? -- Steve

I'm not sure is it the problem that your're facing.

The Windows had config to join domain, but at the frist time it boot up only windows logon appear but not the domain logon. You need to bypass the login, logoff and re-login again to have the domain logon windows enabled and login to domain. This problems occur when the OS is Win95/98.

It's too long ago that I can't remember clearly how to fix, but seems it can be done by apply some hot fix for the OS or reinstall the nic driver.

By the why, have you get a image (i.e. ghost) that can be used for restore to the PC ? If so, try it that maybe solve the problems.
